Elworthy + the Environment
As an individual deeply committed to leading an environmentally conscious lifestyle, it was essential to Kate Miller that her company’s ethos reflect her personal ethics. Elworthy Studio is dedicated to offering high-quality products that minimize environmental waste. Each wallpaper and fabric design is manufactured using eco-friendly raw materials and processes. By utilizing an on-demand printing process, elworthy studios eliminates any potential waste as each fabric and wallpaper is made to order.
Kate partners with suppliers who share her commitment to social and environmental responsibility and selects American businesses to support the domestic economy.
In 2018, Elworthy Studio donated 7% of year end profits to two environmental organizations that manage carbon offsetting projects - CoolEffect and Wildlife Works. Thank you to our clients whose support enabled us to give back!
Wallpaper and Grasscloth
Each of Elworthy Studio’s wallpapers are made and digitally printed in the USA using non-toxic water-based inks which deliver outstanding image quality, consistency, and durability. The inks are odorless and meet the following standards:
UL ECOLOGO certified for reduced environmental impact
UL GREENGUARD GOLD certified for low chemical emissions
Prints meet AgBB criteria for low VOC emissions
The wallpaper is FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) certified, ensuring responsible use of forest resources by a third party, and sourced from within 150 miles of our supplier's studio. It is coated with a water-based, Titanium Dioxide clay for superior opacity and strippability. Our paper has a traditional paper-hand feel, smooth print surface, and matte finish which minimizes glare. It is suitable for residential and low-traffic commercial locations, and is Class A Fire-rated based on ATSM-E84 standard testing for smoke generation and flame spread.
Our grasscloth wall coverings are hand-woven by skilled weavers using the natural fibers of the agave plant, which are sustainable and renewable. These fibers are sun dried for low energy production, colored with water-based vegetable dyes, hand woven, then backed with chemical-free paper. The entire process is eco-friendly and the end product is completely biodegradable. The grasscloth has a beautiful, lustrous sheen with a subtle reflective quality and a smooth, tightly woven texture.
Elworthy Studio’s Decay and Clair Obscur Collection designs are printed on a fabric that is 56% linen and 44% cotton. Wild Palms and Native Collection designs are printed on 100% Belgian linen. These fabrics are sourced from a supplier in Belgium who is an industry leader in ecology and sustainable development.
All elworthy studio textiles are printed in the USA with minimal environmental impact, using low VOC, water-based pigment ink that has been selected for its eco-friendly characteristics. Our supplier’s on-demand printing services are created to minimize waste.
Sample Recycling Program
We distribute thousands of samples to our clients every year and hope that they become staples in your design libraries and on project moodboards. But let's face it... sometimes you need to do some spring cleaning! When you are done with your Elworthy Studio samples, we encourage you to participate in our sample recycling program and mail the samples back to us. If they are in good condition, we will reuse them. If they are a little worn around the edges, we will donate them to schools for use in art/sewing classes. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for further details.
